Licensing & activation (Pro)

LocalForm Pro is a paid add-on, and it checks its license through Freemius, the service that also handles the checkout, your invoices and the plugin's automatic updates.

The free LocalForm plugin is not involved in any of this. It has no license check, contacts nothing, and keeps working exactly the same whether Pro is licensed, unlicensed, or not installed at all.

Where to buy it

LocalForm → Pro in the admin lists what the add-on adds and links to the pricing on localform.dev. If you have no interest in it, the one notice that points at that page has a Don't show this again link that means it - and the page itself disappears the moment Pro is installed.

Nothing in the free plugin is held back in the meantime. There is no trial to run out, no limit to hit, and no feature waiting behind the purchase.

Activating your license

  1. Install and activate LocalForm (the free plugin) first - Pro will not load without it.
  2. Install and activate LocalForm Pro from the zip you were sent after purchase.
  3. Go to LocalForm → License in the admin menu.
  4. Enter the license key from your purchase email and click Activate.

That's it. All Pro features switch on immediately - there is nothing to configure per feature.

Managing the license

Once a license is active, an Account item appears next to License under the LocalForm menu. That is where the whole license lives:

  • See which plan you are on and when it renews.
  • Deactivate the license so you can use it on a different site - do this before migrating or tearing a site down, otherwise the seat stays used up.
  • Change the billing email or download an invoice.
  • Sync the license after an upgrade or a renewal, if the site hasn't noticed it yet.

Automatic updates

Once the license is active, LocalForm Pro updates like any other plugin - new versions show up on the Plugins screen and under Dashboard → Updates, and you can install them with one click.

Without an active license there are no update notifications, because updates are delivered through the same licensed channel. This is the main practical reason to renew even if you are happy with the version you have.

What happens when a license lapses

If the license expires, is deactivated, or was never activated, Pro switches its features off but never touches your data:

  • Conditional rules, extra event dates and prices, global webhook fields and field templates all stay stored exactly as they were.
  • Files already uploaded through a file upload field stay on disk and stay downloadable from the submissions screen.
  • Forms keep working. Questions that only Pro can render or evaluate simply behave like ordinary questions again - a conditional field stops being conditional and shows for everyone, and prefill parameters are ignored.
  • Webhook payloads drop the Pro-only additions (payment_prices, global fields).

Re-activating a license brings all of it straight back - nothing has to be rebuilt.

An admin notice explains why the features are inactive and links to the activation screen. It is only shown to users who can activate plugins, so it never reaches the people filling in your forms.

Staging and development sites

Freemius licenses cover multiple sites depending on your plan, and a staging copy generally counts as one of them. If you run out of seats, deactivate the license on a site you no longer need under LocalForm → Account.

Privacy

The license check talks to Freemius, and that is the only outbound request LocalForm Pro makes on its own. It carries what is needed to validate the license - your site URL, the license key and the plugin version. Form submissions, uploaded files and your visitors' answers are never sent anywhere except the webhook URL you configure yourself.

Freemius' own privacy policy covers what they store.
